Artist Statement:
I love books, paper, and the material world and hope my work reflects that. I appreciate what the visual element can bring to poetry, how text and images work together, and how the visual can open a poem to to new possibilities and a wider audience. I want what lends texture and most of my work is analog. Although it has happened that I have torn, crushed, or lost pages or clippings accidentally, I feel having them in my hands gives me more control than having them onscreen.
Sarah J. Sloat splits her time between Frankfurt and Barcelona, where she works in news. Her poems, prose and collage have appeared in The Offing, Diagram, and Sixth Finch, among other journals. You can keep up with her at SarahJSloat.com.
