Mod(em/alities): 1–5
by Nam Hoang Tran
Artist Statement
“Mod(em/alities)” explores communication in the absence of language, or rather when language is pushed to abstraction. The impetus for this series came from observing my modem one evening and realizing how expressive these blinking lights were. After all, they are the most basic semantic unit; binary code (on/off, 1/0).
Nam Hoang Tran is a multidisciplinary artist living in New Orleans. His work appears in Posit, The Brooklyn Review, ANMLY, New Delta Review, Tagvverk, Always Crashing, and Diode, among others. With Henry Goldkamp, he co-edits TILT – a journal of intermedia poetics.
